Why I love Davao
Life is good here in Davao and it’s been recognized as one of the best places to live in Asia. For locals, we can have as much fun as we can while being very sure of our safety. It is not a common combination for rising cities but it sure is not the only thing I love about the place where I grew up. So I highly recommend my mother city to the world. Take a sneak peek!
911 – Davao City boasts of the most efficient 911 services in the country. With police visibility in malls, and most visited places, sure it lessens the chances of act of terrorism and crimes. It sometimes feels like we have our personal body guards because of lots of men in uniform.
The eagle squad that mans the streets ensures the safety of travelers as well as lightens the flow of traffic. Dial the three-digit code and the ambulance would be available to help give first aid to accidents and other health and life-threatening emergencies.
CurfewThe bars serve alcoholic drinks only until 2am. Yes, it could be a fun spoiler but we better be safe than sorry. There are lots of places to party too! Jam with the locals at Matina Town Square or dance, dance, dance in one of the clubs in the Auto Shop area.
The traffic – mostly light to moderate plus if you’re not one of the unlucky ones who gets to meet rude drivers, we come across with mostly courteous and friendly drivers who even gives us change in our taxi rate.
The food – is cheap. With a wide variety of restaurants to choose from and up and coming ones boasting of great promises of gastronomic overdrive, we can have lots of eat-all-you can food trips for the hungry tummy. Take your pick from unlimited crabs, unlimited pizza and pasta, unlimited rice; whichever you want to take a seat, you may end up having a free drink. Hungry no more, fella! :) Davao is also a fruit basket of all the best-tasting fruits – try this yourself: durian, pomelo, jackfruit, avocado, marang, and many more!
Tourist spots – within the vicinity. With the Island Garden City of Samal, just a few minutes ride from the city, you can have all the beach and island hopping you want. Take a plunge into the big water slide in Maxima, go snorkeling, and SCUBA diving. If you’re an adventure seeker, opt for the white water rafting at the best deals and head to Crocodile Farm as starting area. Fill the thrill in and adrenaline rush. There is no need to worry for these are professionally handled and guaranteed safe. 20 minutes away from downtown Davao is the cheapest wakeboarding in the world. Try the Deca Wakeboarding for 500-750php. If mountain resorts is your style, drive to Eden Nature Park, Philippine Eagle Sanctuary and Malagos Garden Resort. Experience the zip lines in Adventure Park within proximity. And to top it all up, the highest peak in the country – Mt Apo. It is safe to climb and an average fit person can do it in at least three days and you can take pride in reaching to the top!
No smoking – It’s a breather for asthmatics and a great deal for smokers but the city has one of the strict implementations of a no smoking ordinance. So if you need to puff, check the place’s smoking area.
Diversitypeople from every walks of life, religion, and culture come here in Davao City with peace and unity. It is safe and not judgmental.

I'm awksome & adorkable, my cute way of justifying my clumsiness. Born in PH 1989, last wave of people born in the 80's. Never stop learning. I'm a licensed nurse who currently studies law. I'd probably learn pastry making soon but maybe calligraphy lessons sooner. Normal is boring. Most of the people close to me prolly think I'm weird. I dunno. Love is my religion, I'm a low-key agnostic. Jed's greatest fan or biggest headache. hihi

About the Blog

WONOLOGUES is an experimental blog I started in 2008. I coined it by combining WOWO+MONOLOGUES. Wowo is my nickname. I was told that it came from the word "wow". I believed them. I envision this blog to be a wonderful monologue as told by Wowo, just a hodgepodge of all things I find wonderful. I just came back from a year of hiatus. New blog posts weekly.
