SarbayFest2014: An Epic Weekend I Won't Soon Forget

Friday, May 23, 2014

Seven days passed and I'm still not over it. Haaaahhhaa.

So, it's been exactly a week ago when my friends and I rode a van to Gumasa, Glan, Sarangani Province to take part of what was dubbed as the biggest beach party in Mindanao. Well, truth be told, I haven't been to any beach party so I was a bit clueless of what to expect. So I thought, maybe I'll just go with the flow. The people I was with were more like "professional party people" not because they are professionals who love to party but they take partying so seriously wicked, too much is never too much of fun.

Day 1

It all started with a 7 AM call time at Mcdo Bajada. I got too excited I forgot to even sleep. Haha. I didn't want people to wait for me because after all, I was just an add-on of the gang. Ooops! A few chitchats here and there, like getting-to-know each other phase with some smirks and all. I swear my jaw hurt of too much smiling and we haven't even took off yet. Ohh la la.

The announcement of a videoke inside the van totally broke the ice. As Filipinos, we all love to sing. Sadly, the videoke dream was cut short coz the machine won't work. Oh snap :'( It was about a 3-hour ride from Davao City proper to General Santos City (GenSan) passing through zigzag roads and about a hundred of road maintenance. Really. (Third world problems.)We stopped over at Robinsons to grab some lunch. Wow were we hungry! We picked up a few snacks to munch on along the way. And the road from GenSan to Sarangani was an hour of "selfiesness" and booze. Well, a few shots just to pump up the party mode.

The party van.

As we came to the location, we checked in at Davak Ridge, a few hundred meters off the "party zone". Our room made us gasp for air. It was a hundred-step climb to the top! Not complaining though but the exercise sorta took the alcohol off my system. After about an hour of rest and putting our things to place, there goes to drinking party again. I haven't had that much alcohol my whole life, I can't believe I survived!

My new friends.

Party sister.

After some 5 or 10 or I lost count of shots I've had, I felt the excruciating pain of going down the slope to the "party zone". It was arthritis maybe or a weird effect of alcohol, it sure was too much to bear but I just hopped my way down and put my party hat on. Kidding! The party animal inside me is awake and there's no slowing us down. We had to dine! Gotta load up some energy for a whole night of fun! Ahh barbecue. If I had to remember what I had the whole weekend, it will be 40% alcohol, 60 % barbecue!

The night is young and the party animals have been woken up. Or not. Yet. Teehee! Hmm maybe, not too awake yet, kinda shy at first of course. I don't know what else we missed but we witnessed the Bay Bodies or so I think that's what it's called. Some men and women with sculpted bodies graced the stage almost naked. They sure pulled it off. They got yummy bodies, don't ask me about their faces though. Woah! They sure had faces to match their bodies.

Hey, look at that body.

So while we waited for the event of the night - FOAM PARTY, we marked our territory under the umbrella and got oriented with our party plan. Told you, I was with professional party people. Haha. This is how we marked our territory.

Still fresh.

Uhaw.

Sober. Think so.

The reason. The party president - Cham.

The party just started.

Okay, so, yeah, territory marked! Wooh! As soon as the Bay Bodies event was done, we listened to a band- sorry forgot the name. They made good covers of pop songs. We jumped here and there. Then, alas! Of course, loads and loads of foam! Suffocating foam! Itchy foam! Skin so sensitive for the detergent-smelling foam! Skin-burning foam!

Well, you won't find us in those photos though! We were ecstatic to even care to pose for a picture! Woot! Woot! The night was young and the party didn't end when the foam party was done. We got off our territory after being harassed by strangers here and there and before we could be involved in a fiasco, we moved to a "safe zone" to party harder. Can you spot the difference?

STAY COOL AND PARTY ON. That sure was our group's mantra. Hihi. I guess we partied too hard til the break of dawn (as planned) but we called the night off as early as 1 AM which was a shame but there was still Day 2 so no regrets.

Day 2

Fresh start. I think we slept half a day, I woke up famished. With the others still knocked down from last night's dancing and drinking, I decided to wake up to bask under the sun.  Of course I had to have my buddy with me. Sober, sand and sun go together. The firm souls who woke up earlier decided to have brunch altogether. We can't stomach being hungry longer.

After another set of barbecue for brunch haha, I called up my high school friends to feast our eyes with great view and potential "friends".

Soooo guilty!

Mara! Another guilty soul!

You may not see it, but the shore was about a mile long and 3/4 of it was filled with campers in their cute tents some of them can't even assemble. Hihi. The sun was scorching hot and of all things to forget, I missed my dose of sunscreen. Too bad, too sad. So instead of looking sunkissed as I imagined, the sun raped me right then and there. Well, at least now I got tan lines to prove I got my dose of summer sun! Haha.

The rest of the afternoon was spent with wasting money on some refreshing drinks and a few novelties. A few chill moments by the beach.

Professional Party People getting ready. We hair chalked our hair. And we even got our uniform. Dual purpose maybe. A uniform so we know who we're with and to spot the group mates in case the party gets loose.

Eat. Sleep. Rave. Repeat.

Dinner time and guess what we had!?? Yes, barbecue but we got a few eggs for added energy for laters. Weee.

One of the highlights of Day 2 was the 10-minute fireworks display. For Davaoenos like most of us, we cheered like fat kids in a candy store as the sky lit up.

The Kamikazee band played. Yes, can you spot Jay?

And the rest of the night, as I can say was epic.

We could never have enough of party accessories. Haha.

You ready?

This is how the hashtag #tagokayKurt started. This is how you induce amnesia. Kidding!

Blurred memories.

Spell fun.

F-U-N

You're the cutest Cyndrelle-a.

This sure raised the bar to parties for me. This won't be the last with these folks. Amirite? We raved until the break of dawn with a few who had some amnesia, here's to you! We remembered whatever you forgot. And this would be one of those kinds of memories I won't soon forget. One of those that won't need photos to reminisce. Just us. Just the music playing inside our souls. Party on.

About the Blog

WONOLOGUES is an experimental blog I started in 2008. I coined it by combining WOWO+MONOLOGUES. Wowo is my nickname. I was told that it came from the word "wow". I believed them. I envision this blog to be a wonderful monologue as told by Wowo, just a hodgepodge of all things I find wonderful. I just came back from a year of hiatus. New blog posts weekly.
